Wash Day in Dildo

Off and on this winter, I have been working on site specific pieces. I try to travel to each location to get the feel of the place and do my photography. While in Dildo, I was standing on a hill and a jolly character walked up to me and asked, "Is you a bus come from away?" (I wondered did he mean ME or my big, yellow car?!)
Then, before I had a chance to answer, he walked away muttering,
"What queer things you'll see when you haven't got a gun".
How I love this island. It really is the neatest place on earth.

Feeling Blue

I have been working this week on a few different site specific projects, which is a very interesting change. The cats have been incredibly interested, too. When I paint at my easel they are constantly after my brush. They attack, jump, claw and plan ways to get me. Worse than that they are after Gretel. I think they are trying to have us banished, Gretel and I. I think they want the extra space in the bed. Every time I leave the room, they knock over a bottle of paint or walk through my palette. Today, I came back from the wood shed and my coffee cup was on the floor along with a bottle of blue. No cats in site, just poor Gretel covered in coffee and blue. Gretel and I get blamed for all of these messy messes. It isn't fair. These are very clever cats. Very clever, indeed. I know I am going to get in trouble when SHE comes home. Blue socks, a blue dog and a blue-ish, coffee smelling sofa.

Next week I expect to see an ad in the classifieds ...........

Free to a good home....4 Irish Cats

We were in St. John's all day and arrived home late this evening. The house seemed mysteriously tidy, quiet and calm. Everyone had gone to bed. It wasn't until we opened BooBoo's Facebook page that we saw what had actually transpired. Shame. Shame. Shame.

"Flowers from Ticky Tack"

A supper fit for kings and queens was served at Old Foolishness during a splendid Sunday night soiree! How lucky we are that our Crabby Cat Cottage is just down the hill from the hottest spot in town! A happy birthday party it was indeed! Hats off to the chefs! Spendid Splenda Coconut Lime Cheeseycake, peanutty crusted pork, the best mushroom soup ever in the history of the universe and teeny, tiny servings of a magical salad that came all the way from a mysterious place called "Squissage". Hurray for everyone! Shining stars!
A wonderful weekend and more good news today.....Ticky Tack (a wee feral cat known for her outrageous folk-dancing) was adopted by some lovely friends, has a clean bill of health and is ready to start her new life in St. John's. I only hope I packed her dancing shoes.

Rise

This past week I thought a lot about the weather. How, even on the darkest, coldest, ugliest days, we rise. It's easy in the summer, to wake up to a beautiful sunrise and feel the warmth on your shoulders as you start the day. It's a lot harder in the winter. And yet, we rise.

I just finished this painting...it is a biggy...3 feet by 4 feet and I LOVED working on it. The water soluble oils are marvelous, though I am quite a messy mess-maker and the fact that it takes forever for them to dry isn't good for anyone. Coco has a funny orangey-pink patch on her caboose that just won't come out. (I do too, but we'll talk about THAT another day....)

If Llamas Laid Eggs, Would Anyone Knit Them Hats?

Friday was wee Coco's birthday and HER birthday, too!
Coco's present was a brand new hat from the Craft Council (which I am told, is actually an egg warmer.....but why would people put cat hats on eggs?)
It would have been nifty if I'd been able to get an egg warmer hat for HER too, but do people boil eggs that big? Emus? Llamas?
SHE just told me that Llamas do not lay eggs.
They are NOT, in fact, birds.
I know this. But I am tired.
Llama's SHOULD lay eggs.
You'd only need one egg for an eight egg omelet.
I am constantly confused with the ways of the world.
Friday, SHE was treated to a most fabulous birthday surprise party-within an already fabulous party and was, indeed, splendidly surprised!
The best gift of all is having lovely friends!
Coco still hasn't taken off her hat .
Perhaps I'll have to boil her an egg.
