Bring Me To Your Indigos Deep, Soar Through Watery Skies. We'll Fly Away......
This a carved piece we did for our first solo show, Joy! A Whimsical Celebration! It is based on a dream about swimming with whales.
Last night, we had friends over for dinner who were looking at it. We asked them if they could find the hidden lady swimming with the whale......they found them right away.
Can you find the woman, swimming with the whale?

Do Goats Even Like Scrambled Eggs?

Scrambled eggs with feta cheese.....
Her: It tastes a little "goaty"
Me: Do you mean you are tasting as a goat would taste it...with goaty taste buds, or do you mean that it tastes like a goat?
Her: um....I mean it tastes like a goat....like it is too goaty.
Me: So you mean that some goats are goatier than other goats? Do you mean that if you licked a goat on the forehead it would taste like the eggs?
Do you mean that if you licked one goat on the forehead it would be goatier than its neighbour.....who just had a lot less "goat" flavor coming from its pores?
Her: PASS THE PEPPER.

Our Blog in Print!
P.S. BooBoo was extremely insulted that they chose the photos of the goat and other cats. She was left out of the whole shebang and has been in a snit all day!

If We All Had "Happy Helmets" the World Would be A Better Place
I made the cats felted, wool "Happy Helmets". I even dyed the wool. (I am not allowed to do that again unless supervised.)
Meester loves to play with the little doodles that hang down. SHE says that they probably DON'T like the hats.....that perhaps they should only wear them on "special" occasions......
SHE : How would YOU like to have a hot, wool helmet full of hanging doodles jammed over your ears?
Me : I WOULD LOVE IT!!!!!

It Will All Be Worth it When I Win The Turkey.....

Knock! Knock! Knock!
Dry my paint brush...answer door.
Wee, little lady wearing golfing visor and huge spectacles....holding clipboard. This will not be easy.
Her : Good Evening. (it is only 2:30pm) Do you live here alone?
Me: Ah...no.....
Her: I know that...there's another woman lives here, does she?
Me: Ah....yes.....
Her: You own the house next door too?
Me: Ah.....nope.
Her: See a lot of people coming and going from here....
Me: Yes. Well, we have an art studio.
Her: People say you paint things....saw it in the paper. You make a living at that?
Me: Ah.......yes.....
Her: But you don't belong here.
Me: No. I just live here.
Her: Where's your woman to?
Me: Ah...working next door.
Her: Fella up the road says that's some new vehicle you've got there.
Me: Hmm......yes.
Her: My dolly, you've got a lot of colours on your shirt. That's the dirtiest shirt I ever saw! (She actually pokes me in the stomach with her pen...I turn red)
Me: Yes, I was painting. (I wave my brush around like an eejit)
Her: Do you want to buy tickets on a turkey?
Me: Hmmm....Sure.
And so I buy a ticket to win a turkey I will never win. Who knew it would be so difficult to buy a turkey ticket? Does everyone have to answer the same questions? If I had answered wrong, would I have been disqualified from the turkey draw?
In the past 5 years I have bought tickets for fish cakes, roast beef dinners, turkey dinners, cold plates, Christmas hampers, Easter hampers, ham plates, fish and brewis, church raffles and turkey hampers. I have been interrogated at every point of sale.....keep in mind, they are coming to MY door. At first, I thought they were from the census department. I truly think these women should work for the FBI. I do understand the curiosity...we are artists and live in a kooky-looking house and we ARE new here (only 5 years).
We don't mind buying the tickets. And we really do love our town. I just wish that sometimes I would win the turkey instead of feeling like one!

I Wasn't Looking At Your Pants
Newfoundland is famous for its laundry lines. I must say, I do love them. I am a sucker for colourful shirts, bras and jeans blowing in the breeze. Long underwear, don't get me started! It's a strange thing really, looking at someone else's drawers, but hey, if they're gonna hang them out there, I'm going to look! Best thing ever....a little old lady in a house dress hanging up a red and white checked bra...with frills. I never! (Well, I did once, but we aren't talking about me...)

"There's Always Time For A Cup Of Tea"
These past few months have been especially hectic and it seems that we've been flying through the days, just trying to get things done. I am thankful for our friend Ian who comes over every day for his lunch. Sometimes I feel a bit rushed or bothered that I have to stop what I am doing, make tea and cookies and set the table when I have so much to do. But as soon as he arrives, with his big smiles, loud booming voice and twinkling, old eyes, I forget all of that and we sit down for 20 minutes and take a break. I am thankful to Ian for the time he gives us, his stories and his friendship. He is going to be 85 next week and is one smart cookie. He knows that there's always time for a cup of tea.by Cara and Pam

A Thanksgiving Miracle
We were in St. John's on Friday and did not bring treats or toys home for the animals. We don't usually bring treats for all 17, but it IS Thanksgiving. We knew we would be in the dog house. On the way home, we stopped and checked our mailbox and there it was....a lovely white express package addressed to all of our friends.....even Fat Aunt Sylvia! Thank you Lori, for the lovely turkey treats and catnip. You saved the day, and we didn't have to put up with any wisecracks or dirty looks from anyone. It was a Thanksgiving Miracle!

When I Die, I hope Someone Has the Courtesy to Tie a Goat to my Tombstone
There was a goat tied to a tombstone in the cemetery up the road. I still want a goat of my own, but I am not allowed. She says that if I had ONE goat, I'd need two because the first one would be lonely. She thinks I would worry about the goats and think they were bored. She says I would end up getting them their own ipod and making them playlists of music that I think goats might like. She says I would make them outfits and knit them sweaters that they would eventually eat. She says, I would dress them up in Halloween costumes. She says she would come home one day and I would be playing Twister in the living room with two goats dressed in fairy costumes, 4 cats and a dog in a Robin Hood outfit, listening to "goat music" on the ipod. SO?

ST. JOHN'S FINE CRAFT & DESIGN FAIR
The Christmas Craft Fair at the Arts and Culture Center is getting closer and closer. I keep asking Pam for carved pieces, even though she is working full time next door on the orange house. My Nerves! What if we don't have anything to sell? A sarcastic Pam says, “I know, why don’t you use your time wisely and make some more zucchini people, put them through standards and sell them at the fair?" Ha! Fooled her...she was being smarmy, but little does she know that I already have Mrs. Nutterbutter the Butternut Squash Lady and Doris, Deb and Trixie, (the parsnip sisters), in the vegetable crisper, just waiting for the day.

The Most Beautiful Place in the World!
cats cats
I bought some stunningly gorgeous wool.....
It took a while to figure out what I would do with it...I finally decided on pickles. Meester is devastated as he was growing quite fond of Mrs. Z.... whispering sweet nothings in her ear. The pickles are very good, but we feel guilty every time Meester Lily looks in the jar.

Papa Luigi
This is one of our donated pieces for the SPCA's Fall Gala on Saturday, October 3rd. It is a cause that is dear to our hearts. We try to help as many animals as we can here, at Crabby Cat Cottage, and often end up adopting them ourselves. Papa Luigi has the saddest story, but he is the happiest cat in town. (Except for the time last winter when he had injured feet and had to wear socks for 2 weeks)
Gretel and Lily have both come a long way.
P.S. We think it's silly when people dress their pets in clothes but we have to make exceptions for Halloween and poor Meester (Lily) who doesn't quite feel himself unless he is wearing something frilly.
